She could honestly remember being a little girl on the bow of the ferry as they approached the great walls to the city. Her mother had cried and her father had picked her up in joy to toss her in the air. Jung scowled, Jing looked apathetic, and Ling held Mother's hand. Jin had thought that it was beautiful and when they went inside it was a truly wonderful sight to behold. Republic City was special and she knew she loved it as soon as she saw it. It had taken her a while to sell her mount and earn some extra coins to open her shop but it was worth it.
It was shocking to know that the city didn't have a single tea shop so Jin had intended to change that. She bought a small building, a few tables, decorated, and made certain to write to her family back in Ba Sing Se. Her china was also important but it didn't quite matter how the tea got to one. The pot could be made of tin but if the tea was good the flavor would shine through. She had saved for numerous sets and cups. She only had four tables and she served from the tea pot her father had given her for her eleventh birthday. It was an old pot that was a dark emerald green color engraved with intricate gold patterns. Her cups were beautiful but they didn't match her pot at all which suited Jin just fine. All the cups were different much like the residents of Republic City. She had green cups, blue, yellow, and red.
Jin had bought cups from all four nations and was quite proud of them. She tossed her braids over her the front of her shoulders as she walked to the strong of the store with a smile. Stretching she opened up the front door and switched the sign from "Closed" to "Open" before she tried to think of what day it was. Ah, it was Jasmine tea day. She'd start the day off with brewing jasmine tea. She tried to learn all the different recipes that spread across the world and had gotten quite good at them. She loved swapping recipes and getting different plants to brew her tea with. Try as she might she could never get any recipes from the Water Tribe so she had concluded that the majority of them just weren't tea drinkers.
Jin brewed her concoction and watched as a few of her regulars spilled in who took a cup and paid her. She didn't care all that much about the money as she much preferred seeing people happy. However, happiness didn't pay the rent. Her morning rush slowed and she was left alone.
Adorning the Earth Kingdom citizen was a plain green dress. She had an apron tied around her waist and for the most part looked very plain. Jin didn't dress up often she didn't see a reason to do so unless necessary. Jin looked outside seeing that it seemed to be a slow day for everyone. Pouting the young woman picked up her broom and she swept the floor feeling a little bored.

It wasn't the first time the young waterbender had been in Republic City and she certainly knew it wouldn't be her last time there. Katara couldn't help but smile a bit as she strolled through the city's streets, it was so wonderful to see citizens from all over the world existing peacefully in one place. After being in the middle of a war for most of her life, Katara was overjoyed to finally get to see what peace was like. Of course there would always be conflict, but the worst of it was over for the moment and it was a wonderful thought. Businesses and lives in general were booming, Republic City was just an incredible place to start over.
Something did surprise Katara though... there wasn't a single tea shop in the entire city! Ever since Ba Sing Se, Katara had become quite a fan of tea, though she wasn't very familiar with it. She had half expected to see a little Jasmine Dragon Tea Shop in some quiet little corner with a million people flooding in and out of it, yet there was no such sight. Oh well, it didn't really matter that much anyways. There was so much of the growing city left to see anyways, so she could stop for lunch later in the day.
And just as tea had faded from Katara's mind, a shop caught her eye. She paused suddenly, turning towards the tea shop for a moment, just so she could confirm what she was seeing. It was, in fact, a tea shop. Katara giggled softly, of course there was a tea shop in Republic City! How silly it was to think that there wasn't one. As she approached, a couple of people opened the door and left. The fact that there were customers was a good sign, so Katara decided to check it out. Hopefully the owner was friendly enough, Katara wanted to ask them what they thought of the city.
Katara brushed a bit of dust off her blue clothing, which practically shouted Water Tribe, and she looked around. A smile spread across her face, the entire Tea Shop just felt very warm and inviting, everything a good business needed to be. As Katara moved her gaze from the decorations, she noticed a young woman with a broom, sweeping and looking rather bored. It seemed like the perfect moment to say something.
"Hello," Katara said simply, smiling so she seemed more friendly, "Do you work here?"

The entire building smelled of jasmine flowers. She was especially fond of Jasmine day as it smelled sweet and calm. Jasmine was a calming tea and she always felt so happy while serving it. She always thought that when she drank it she could always smell the flowers first before the taste. Hot flower soup didn’t sound especially appetizing but that was what jasmine tea essentially was. She loved how they smelled and was thinking about brewing other floral teas—lotus has been the first of her list of experiments and it tasted divine! She couldn’t wait to share it with the public but she was getting the brew just right. After that she knew she’d be working with fire lilies, they were exceptionally rare and beautiful but she thought that maybe they’d remind some of her customers from the Fire Nation of their home. Although she hated to admit it, the Fire Nation had such delicious blends and probably some of the best teas that were ever made. She found that she was very fond of spiced tea but jasmine would always be one of her favorites. She loved jasmine tea day.
It got lonely being all by herself sometimes. She was used to being around a lot of people. She had grown up with three older brothers and was used to noise and activity and as busy as she could be the quiet really bothered her and she wished that she had someone to talk to. Jin was thinking about purchasing a sparrowkeet she had always wanted one but her mother didn’t like animals in the apartment and she said having four children was more than enough for her to take care of they didn’t need more kids. She remembered pigs from when she was a very young girl and living out on her farm with her family, even while taking care of them her mom complained. She smiled, she loved her mother dearly but she was a negative person which was probably why she got along so well with her father. Her father never had anything bad to say and he was always smiling. Jin would have to send a letter soon. Maybe she’d get a hawk, but if she got a messenger hawk it would be off at Ba Sing Se an awful lot delivering her mail. Maybe a cat she had always liked cats and they were calm and fairly easy to take care of. She had tried to bring home several cats when she lived in Ba Sing Se only to have her mom tell her “no”. Maybe she’d get one.
The bell at the door rang as soon as Katara entered. She honestly wasn’t too fond of it but she had to know if someone came in if she was in the back. Not that she thought anybody would steal anything or do her harm but more so she could provide service. Holding onto her broom she smiled, it was nice to get somebody new in! She was familiar with everyone who came to her shop so when she got someone new she was always excited. A wide smile crossed her face and her hazel eyes shone with excitement. Still holding her broom she bowed her head politely, “Welcome, and yes I do.”
She owned her fine establishment as well as brewed her tea and served her customers but it wasn’t especially big and she never found it too difficult to manage. “Today’s special is jasmine tea but I’m more than willing to brew up anything else you’d like.” [/blockquote][/blockquote]

Katara smiled right back at Jin and bowed her head respectfully as well. So far, everything was going wonderfully and she appreciated it, a quiet day with some tea sounded perfect. When Jin mentioned that Jasmine tea was the special of the day, but she could brew something else, Katara thought over her options. Jasmine tea was always lovely, not to mention she didn't want to be a high maintenance customers who had to have something extra special. Katara liked making life easier for everybody, even in the smallest, most random of ways. "Oh, Jasmine tea sounds wonderful," Katara replied, pausing for a moment to wonder if they had any Water Tribe inspired teas. Rather than ask, Katara looked around and started to scope out a good table if the choice was up to her.
There weren't very man people there at that particular point in time, which surprised Katara a bit. Normally tea shops were very popular, then again it might have just been a slow day, which was to be expected every once in awhile. Either way, it was bound to be an enjoyable stop before she went to visit the Fire Lord. "Quiet day today?" Katara asked as she turned back towards Jin. For a moment, Katara thought that she recognized the tea shop worker from somewhere. She had seen a lot of people in Ba Sing Se, so maybe she saw her in a restaurant or something? It wasn't that important anyways, but she couldn't help but be a little bit curious about it.

As Jin waited for a reply she motioned to any of her empty tables with her left hand and walked over to the corner of her shop to prop her broom up on the side of it. The young woman was glad she would be fine with just Jasmine tea but she honestly never minded making anything special for any of her visitors. The young girl nodded at Katara’s request and she offered a smile, “Jasmine tea it is.”
She walked back behind the counter. Behind it she had a fair amount of shelves covered with jars filled with leaves and flowers from across the lands as well as all of her cups. She picked out a green cup and set it down on her tray. There was a doorway in the center with a piece of dark green cloth that only covered up less than a quarter of the door. Stoking up the fire she wished for a very brief moment that she was a fire bender as it would have made her life a lot easier. She walked back out and explained, “It will be ready soon.” Her hands were before her and she stood waiting before she started to speak. Ever the extrovert Jin enjoyed talking with as many people as possible. Perhaps that was why she liked Republic City so much there were so many interesting people for her to get to know. She nodded, “A little, most people come a bit early and since I’m so new here I don’t think a lot of people realize that my shop’s here yet.” Serving tea was her passion and she was happy so long as people came and enjoyed her brews. Paying the bills was nice too but she had saved up enough to coast until she got more popular. She had no doubt that she’d make it big it was just a matter of being patient, “So are you from the North or South?” [/blockquote][/blockquote]
